Smith Rock by the Canal--oil by Marie

Last Fall we went for a drive and passed this wonderful scene, so we stopped and I took several photos.  I'm not sure what the purpose is for the little canal, but it fed into a stream one cannot see from my viewpoint, and of course had majestic Smith Rock as a backdrop.  This oil painting took me about three weeks, with stopping to let areas dry before going on.  It is somewhat large at 16 X 20, and I plan to put it up for sale after it's framed. Joining in with Eva and Kristin's Paint Party Friday:

  2. Marie, that is very beautiful! You have some talent. I started painting with oils, but I'm not into my watercolours so much. I do miss that medium though. I'd like to do some more one of these days!

  21. It's lovely, Marie!
When I was growing up just S of Redmond (a block from the canal, on the old Bend-Redmond Hwy) we teased that our water got "pasteurized" at least 7 times, before it made it to our taps!
In the 60s, My dad finally got "city water" for irrigation, but before that he'd go up the ditch, and open the sluice gate that would let the water come to our place, several hours before he wanted to water. During dry summers, we were sometimes rationed, and could only water on alternate days, matching out address (we had an even number) ...
    Happy PPF!
